The additional buses that are now operating on Route 40 come as the result of ongoing evaluation by SEPTA’s service planning team of ridership trends on “high demand routes.” For the Route 40, during peak times the headway is reduced from 10 to 8 minutes, and in the afternoon, buses will have a 10 minute headway compared to the previous 11-12 minutes. SEPTA says the new schedules reflect a reduction in “headways”, or frequency of service. “The changes for the fall schedules are designed to accommodate this increasing demand for service.” A look at the new SEPTA Route 40 schedule cover. “The Route 40 has continued to grow as more people ride to University City,” explained SEPTA Public Information Manager Andrew Busch.
